Share Sharecenter_img Police barricade and presence on Victoria StreetThe Police Chief of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force, Daniel Carbon has declared Victoria Street as a “restricted area” effective 8:00am, Monday, 30th September.“In keeping with section 83(1) of the Vehicles and Road Traffic Act No. 17 of 1993, the portion of road on Victoria Street between Fort Young Hotel and the Dominica Broadcasting Corporation (DBS)Radio station has been declared a ‘restricted area’,” a release from the Chief states.A silver barricade was placed at the intersection in the vicinity of the Venezuelan Embassy on Victoria Street, on Sunday evening restricting access to DBS Radio, the Parliament building, the State House, the Public Library and the Fort Young Hotel among other offices in that area.There is also a second barricade at the intersection in the vicinity of DOWASCO and the Inland Revenue Division on High Street and at least five police officers.“We anticipated some threats in terms of Parliament being disrupted and so we have to take proactive action,” Head of Traffic, inspector Patrickson Albert told Dominica Vibes in Monday.Mr Albert also indicated that the Victoria Street “will be opened about 12:50pm to accommodate traffic”.UWP Leader Lennox Linton announced on Sunday that his party will host a public meeting outside the President’s residence on Victoria Street on Monday from 5pm.However, according to the release, “the Chief of Police has not granted permission to hold any public meeting on Victoria Street in the vicinity of the Fort Young Hotel and Dominica Broadcasting Corporation” as this area has been declared a “restricted area”.The Police Chief has called on the public to cooperate fully with the police and to adhere to all traffic signs and or directions of the police, as “violation of traffic signs and laws will not be tolerated”.Another press release will be issued by the Police Chief when the ban on access to Victoria Street has been lifted, staff officer Antonia Moses has said.[nggallery id =356]Dominica Vibes News 1138 Views   no discussions Sharelast_img read more
