Tom Burke solar plant strategically positioned

first_imgEnel Green Power South Africa (EGP RSA) celebrates its Tom Burke solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant, located on a site declared a National Key Point in Limpopo Province. According to a company statement, the project marks the IPPs’ first large-scale solar project and first thin film photovoltaic (PV) panels in the country. The Tom Burke solar power plant, which has an installed capacity of 66MW, reached early generation and commercial operation date (COD) during August 2016, the company noted.Tom Burke solar power plant in strategic positionThe site where the solar plant is located was declared a National Key Point in line with South Africa’s National Key Point Act (1980).Furthermore, it is in acknowledgement of its strategic importance of feeding 122GWh per year into the national grid, while providing electricity supply to nine villages in the Lephalale region. The company statement highlighted that Tom Burke occupying 202 hectares and can avoid the emission of over 1,11000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. After reaching COD the plant moved into its operations and maintenance (O&M) phase, producing an average energy output of 350 to 360MWh per day, enough to power approximately 200,000 rural households daily.O&M phaseDuring the O&M phase, the solar plant was closely monitored via an on-site control room, as well as the company’s 24-hour centralised control room in Sandton, north of Johannesburg. Read more…The monitoring allows for an analysis of the solar power plant’s performance at inverter level, allowing the plant’s staff to immediately address potential issues and maximise efficiencies wherever possible. The solar panels are also cleaned twice yearly to maximise output.Country manager in South Africa, William Price, said: “South Africa is a resource-rich country and we are proud to provide an increasingly integrated offering and a strong renewable energy generation base.“We firmly believe that by taking advantage of renewable energies we can improve electrification in Southern Africa and incorporate current and available technologies to bridge the gap between supply and demand for energy.” AFD and Eskom commit to a competitive electricity sector Finance and Policy BRICS Low carbon, solar future could increase jobs in the future – SAPVIA Generationcenter_img RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR Previous articleLibya inks $370m deal with Greek EPCNext articleFNB Namibia obtains Green Star Africa rating Babalwa BunganeBabalwa Bungane is the content producer for ESI Africa – Clarion Events Africa. ZTE and China Mobile Demonstrate New 5G Massive MIMO 3D Coverage Solution

ZTE and China Mobile Demonstrate New 5G Massive MIMO 3D Coverage Solution

first_imgZTE Corporation, together with the Guangzhou branch of China Mobile, has completed the verification of the new three-dimensional coverage solution, 5G Massive MIMO 1+X SSB (Synchronization Signal and PBCH block) solution, in the central business district of Guangzhou, China. The solution optimized the coverage performance of high-rise buildings and improved the vertical coverage rate by more than 30%. In addition, it used fewer beams for transmission which significantly saved resource and reduced power consumption. To achieve high-quality 5G network coverage, ZTE has introduced 5G Massive MIMO 1+X SSB innovative solution. “1” here refers to the wide beam with power boosting, to provide basic coverage and implement staggered transmission between adjacent cells in time domain. To adapt to various three-dimensional coverage scenarios, “X” can be configured on demand to expand vertical coverage and achieve optimal network coverage.ZTE and China Mobile have fully verified the performance of the 5G Massive MIMO 1+X SSB coverage solution in various scenarios, including high-rise buildings, outdoor pavement and continuous network. The result turns out that the horizontal wide beam “1” with power boosting could achieve equivalent horizontal coverage of 8 beams while the flexible “X” vertical beams configuration has increased the coverage rate of high-rise buildings by over 30%.Compared with the horizontal 8-beam solution, the 1+X SSB solution with fewer beams configuration has increased the access capacity by 30% and the service capacity by 5% under the high-load network condition while reducing equipment power consumption by 10% under the low-load network condition. In 2020, the Guangzhou branch of China Mobile and ZTE announced to build Guangzhou into a leading 5G “pilot city”. Both parties have carried out a number of innovative research projects, such as the new 5G DAS (XXX) multi-channel joint transmission technology to achieve low-cost and high-efficiency 5G indoor coverage. Moreover, the two parties will continue cooperation in various fields, including Massive MIMO complex networking, AI and big data based AAPC (Automatic Antenna Pattern Control) tool, which efficiently optimizes 5G Massive MIMO multi-antenna weight, and 5G Massive MIMO 1+X SSB automatic horizontal/vertical beams optimization.Moving forward, ZTE Corporation and the Guangzhou branch of China Mobile will further expand the application scope of 5G Massive MIMO 1+X SSB solution in commercial 5G networks, thereby fully leveraging its values in vertical coverage performance, network capacity and equipment power consumption.last_img read more
