first_imgNOBODY’S perfect, but we like to think the public officials we pay to take care of certain needs get things right most of the time. But they don’t. Take Los Angeles County. Over the last three years, how often did officials keep the right records and notify the public when sewage spilled into the Santa Monica Bay Watershed? Three-quarters of the time? Half? Try less than 10 percent. County auditors have found that since January 2002, there are no records for 189 of 208 spills that poured nearly 12 million gallons of sewage into the bay.
